WANT TO KNOW MORE ABOUT THE TRANSPLANT PROCESS?

Please check out the Big Ask. Big Give. for specific information on becoming a living donor.

Many people on the waiting list for a transplant will die before receiving one.

A LIVING DONATION is a voluntary gift of one kidney (we only need one) by a person who is able. There are many benefits. It is a safe, proven laparoscopic procedure which can be done immediately. Donors are tested thoroughly to ensure SAFE and HEALTHY outcomes.  All medical expenses, travel, lodging, and time lost at work by the donor may be covered.

All living kidney donors in the United States are automatically prioritized for a deceased donor kidney transplant if they ever need a transplant.

Gustav’s blood type is A+. The transplant will take place at Duke Hospital in Durham, NC by the Duke Transplant Team, one of the the highest rated hospitals for living kidney donation. Donors must be free of kidney disease, heart attack, diabetes, cancer, kidney stones, high blood pressure and obesity.

If your blood type is not a match (different from A+) you can still help Gustav through Kidney Paired Donation (KPD) or Kidney Exchange. In KPD, living donor kidneys are swapped so each recipient receives a compatible transplant.
