GUSTAV NEEDS A KIDNEY
(Please say Yes to ‘Is there a specific person to whom you want to donate an organ?’ and say Gustav Melich to ‘Intended recipient's name‘ and say 3/8/1969 to ‘Intended recipient's date of birth’)
I live in Raleigh, North Carolina with my beautiful family.
I love laughing. I love my family, my two kids. I love my pets, the dogs and the kitties. And I just LOVE Life. And it was going great, as usual…until it wasn’t…
On February 18th, 2023 I was diagnosed with renal cell carcinoma (the most common type of kidney cancer) in both my kidneys. Unfortunately because of the size of the tumor in the right kidney, it required full/radical nephrectomy (removal of full kidney). On February 27th, 2023 my full right kidney was removed. The following months the doctors ran many tests to see if they can save the left kidney, but unfortunately the size and the location of the tumor forced them to similarly to the right side, perform a full nephrectomy as well. On October 26th, 2023 my left kidney was also removed and that day I started my new life. A life without kidneys where the only thing keeping me alive is dialysis for hours every other day.
I still work full time, still go on big walks with my dogs and and I still ride my bike. Still trying to do everything in my power to extend my life, because the truth is that the average life expectancy on dialysis is only 5-10 years. But besides all the efforts with no obvious “you look sick” vibes, I am sick and I need a kidney.
After months of waiting on February 1st, 2024 I was listed on the UNOS List for Transplant. And that was the last obstacle… Now I will be going full steam ahead to find my NEW KIDNEY. And I need your help.
